Florence

Across the Arno River, Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, is known the world over as the capital of art with its numerous historical buildings, monuments, and rich museums. The city's historic center contains its most important cultural treasures and may be appreciated in its entirety from the surrounding hills, and in particular from Forte Belvedere and from Piazzale Michelangelo, which offers one of the most scenic panoramas of the Arno Valley. The most famous palace of the city, Palazzo Vecchio and the nearby Uffizi Gallery, one of the most renowned art museums in the world, are found in Florence's central square, the Piazza della Signoria. The architectural gem of Florence is the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, known simply as "the Duomo", with its magnificent cupola designed by Brunelleschi, and the close-by Campanile di Giotto. But Florence is not only art and museums, it's also fun, and at night is transformed into a continuous flux of young folk going from one pub to the next, and from the pizzerias to the discotheques.
